Back in 2018, I was consulting for a mid-size electronics manufacturer in Taichung. They'd spent six months and significant budget on a marketing campaign that generated zero qualified leads. The strategy looked perfect in the boardroom presentation, but it completely missed their actual customer behavior.
That's when we realized something important. Most marketing strategies fail because they're built on assumptions rather than actual data. Companies were making decisions based on what they thought customers wanted, not what customers actually did.
